MembershipMeeting2011On the 4th August 2011, Cambodia Anti-Tuberculosis Association, an NGO of TB professional, conducted membership meeting, chaired by Dr. Mao Tan Eang, vice chief of CATA Board of Directors with the presence of Dr. ONOZAKI, BOD member. The meeting was held in CENAT meeting room and participated by 40 participants including 6 NGO representatives.

The objective of this meeting is to consult to participants on how to strengthen the CATA membership and discover the roles of TB network and the network’s representative.

Dr. Mom Ky, Acting Executive Director of CATA addressed that according to the name of the Association, Cambodia Anti-tuberculosis Association should be a country representative for TB society in Cambodia like in other countries such JATA  in JAPAN, PATA in Pakistan etc…The  CATA’s 5 years strategic plan, just developed also raised many objectives which lead CATA to at least TB coordinator ,so he wished the participants to discussed and produced idea on how CATA should do to achieve its objectives.

Dr. Ikushi Onozaki, a member of CATA Board of Director, stated that CATA is a small NGO but a lot of activities have contributed to the national TB program. He reaffirms that while the national TB control works well with the best results, but thousands more people still affected by TB.

H.E. Dr. Mao Tan Eang said that “Since 2001 only few NGOs helping CENAT, but currently fifteen NGOs working on TB”. He added that “Since 2005, CATA begin its work with the only support from JATA, but now it receives support from Global fund, ARC and TSANZ, so it was thought that CATA now grow up”, and he suggested CATA to expand areas coverage and strengthen its roles of being a representative national tuberculosis NGOs as well as a representative of the region

Dr. Mao Tan Eang pushes for support of participants, national and international members, and relevant NGOs to help CATA to be a national network of tuberculosis, a key partner for sharing and coordinating of all events associated with TB.

After  viewing the CATA’s 5 years Strategic Plan, the group discussion was conducted and the result from groups stressed that CATA should strengthen the funding and human resources, have clear strategies for sharing information of TB, increase membership and make more widely recognized strong adherence to the bank account with transparency of fees and expense.
